A small and pretty mahogany verge dial clock. The well patinated salt box case has the original mahogany bezel with integral lock and movement access doors to the right side and to the base. The 10 inch diameter silvered dial has Roman & Arabic chapters and it is beautifully signed RAY SUDBURY beneath chapter XII. The movement has A-shaped plates and four baluster pillars with gut fusee and knife edge verge escapement. Daniel Ray, was born in Sudbury, Suffolk in 1763. He was apprenticed in London but by 1788 he returned home then later moved to the town of Battle in Sussex.
