Circa 1695
Sold
14¼ inches high
A very fine Tompionesque ebony striking table clock with pull quarter repeat. CASE The top quality case is mounted with Tompion's own thistle bud gilt-brass handle and his foliate mounts. DIAL The 7¼ by 6¾ inch gilt-brass dial has subsidiary dials for pendulum regulation and rise-and-fall and both the four dial feet and the five pillars are fully latched. The large backplate fills the case and is beautifully engraved by Tompion's G195 engraver. John Gwilt is listed as working circa 1695, the case, dial and movement are all reminscent of Tompion's style however we are inclined to believe it was made in the workshops of Jonathan Puller.
