George Graham, London

Circa 1745

Sold

13 inches high

An important and very original ebony striking table clock with quarter repeat. CASE The handsome inverted bell top case is surmounted by Graham's typical foliate-tied handle with simple escutcheons to the door. DIAL The dial has silver spandrels and the usual subsidiary rings flanking the chapter ring. MOVEMENT The very high quality movement has latches to the dial feet and to the six pillars, it has the original verge escapement and quarter repeat on Tompion's all-or-nothing interlocking lever system. A little known fact is that Graham's made about one third as many table clocks as did Tompion, as a consequence they are exceedingly difficult clocks to source.
