A most unusual and very rare gilt-brass and marble small table clock. DIAL The pretty 3 inch white enamel dial is has an unusual lay-out and fine original gold hands with subdivided hours, minutes and seconds and flying 4th seconds. MOVEMENT The 2-day watch-type movement has chain fusee and cylinder balance wheel escapement, the backplate is beautifully decorated with scrolling foliage. The naturalistically modelled base is supported on a white marble plinth. James Tregent (1770-1804), was a very fine clock and watchmaker of French birth, he settled in London in the Strand and afterwards in Cranbourne Street. He was watchmaker to the Prince of Wales and he was intimate with Garrick, Sheridan, and other celebrities of the stage.
