A unique phase 3 large-size month-going ebony striking table clock with quarter repeat. This important clock is the only known phase 3 (large size) month-going table clock by Thomas Tompion. The only other striking month table clock by Tompion is of phase 2 type and it is displayed at Lyme Park, Cheshire (Legh collection). Owing to its long duration other unique features become apparent, such the extra-large barrels and fusees, the extra wheel in the wheel trains and the reversal of the strike and going trains, which in turn necessitates the reversal of the subsidiary strike/silent and regulation dials.. This clock is also illustrated in RW Symonds, Thomas Tompion, his life and work, figs. 128 & 233.
