An early mahogany-cased one-day marine chronometer. DIAL The 78 mm. diameter silvered dial is signed and numbered Arnold, LONDON. 435, with Roman hour numerals and large diameter subsidiary seconds dial at VI. MOVEMENT The movement has circular brass plates which are pinned to the top-plate signed Jn. R. Arnold, London, Invt et Fecit No. 435, Arnold escapement, the detent with steel locking pallet, slightly later cut bimetallic balance with brass and steel timing screws, over-sprung steel helical balance spring. BOX Brass bowl with spring-loaded winding cover to its flat base, the bezel is typically bayonet-secured and has a domed glass, square section gimbal with restored/repaired locking arm, Arnold three-tier mahogany box with typical narrow dovetailing, later top lid, ebony-inlaid escutcheon and now lacking the brass drop handles.
