An exceptionally rare gilt-brass carriage timepiece with pull quarter repeat and alarm. CASE The architectural case with out-set angles to the plinth on bun feet (one numbered 4222 on the underside), the front of the base numbered 4222, the main body of the case cast with berried laurel leaves with central rosettes, glazed sides, Roman pediment to the top with acroteria, the fluted handle cast with palmette leaves and with Greek key decoration. DIAL With silvered Roman chapter ring signed Breguet et Fils with Breguet’s blued steel hands, central alarm hand adjusted by a small steel square to the right side of the door, recessed subsidiary seconds ring at VII, within a finely engine turned gilt mask with central winding hole. MOVEMENT The going barrel movement has Breguet's large gilt platform with in-line lever escapement with cut bimetallic compensated balance and parachute suspension. Push quarter repeat and alarm on a bell. Sold together with original gilt double-ended winding key and red leather and gilt tooled travelling box. PROVENANCE Originally sold on 29th August 1825 to the Hon. Mr Agar Elis (later Lord Dover) for 2,400 francs.
