A unique ebony month-going striking table clock of phase III type; the only existing example of a month-going phase III table clock by Thomas Tompion. The generously proportioned case is surmounted by a grand gilt-brass foliate handle and four urn finials. A unique feature, resulting from its month duration, is that the main dial has transposed subsidiary rings and the going and strike trains are reversed. The only other striking month table clock by Tompion is of phase 2 type and it is displayed at Lyme Park, Cheshire (Legh collection). This clock is fully illustrated in R.W. Symonds, Thomas Tompion, His Life & Work, pages 152 & 225.
