An important and possibly unique balance wheel skeleton table regulator. Type: Series I DIALS The unusual and possibly unique dials layout comprises individual chapter rings with a central silvered minute ring with Arabic numerals and delicate counterbalanced blued steel spade-form hand; flanked on its right is a silvered seconds ring with a delicate counterbalanced blued steel hand; and on the left side is the hour ring with Roman numerals and blued steel spade-form hand. FRAME The four well-turned columns at each angle are surmounted by brass ball finials – each dot-punched to its underside to indicate which corner each custom finial belongs. The top plate of the pillar frame is punch-signed on the underside J. CONDLIFF LIVERPOOL The rectangular brass plinth base rests on ball feet and the front of the base is applied with a silvered plaque for the retailer R. HESS LIVERPOOL flanked by a further signature for the case maker HELSBY. COMPa LIVERPOOL. The whole is supported on a purpose-made mahogany base with a barrel-vaulted glass dome. MOVEMENT The going train is all held within a geometrically pierced lunette frame with the spring barrel on the left side having end caps with six crossings to the front and rear ably showing the mainspring with the setup clock to the rear. The chain fusee has maintaining power and its rear is also pierced with six crossings to show the ratchet-and-click; the delicate intermediary and ‘contrate’ wheels have six crossings and the wheels are screwed to their collets. The lever escapement has a bevel wheel that gears with the ‘contrate’ and a long steel arbor terminating with the escape wheel and the jewelled lever pallets which receive their impulse from a pin rotated by the steel three-arm balance wheel with a helical balance spring, the terminus of which is cleverly held within the mouth of a gilded serpent. BASE & DOME The solid mahogany oval base has been purpose-made for the clock to fit with the arched bent glass dome with gilt gesso mouldings,
