A very fine and rare quarter chiming skeleton clock. Type: Series Two DIAL The large diameter narrow silvered chapter ring has Roman numerals and an outer minute track and the hands are of decoratively pierced blued steel. The chapter ring is secured to the front plate by four delicate baluster-form feet with steel screws at the chapter ring and blued screws behind the front plate. FRAME The large rectangular brass base is raised on bun feet and applied to the front with a decorative pierced silvered brass signature plaque, engraved Jas. Condliff LIVERPOOL. The large scrolling pierced brass movement plates are held together by nine vase-shaped pillars with blued steel screws at the front and pinned at the back. MOVEMENT The three individual spring barrels are of different sizes for their individual functions and have five crossings to the front caps each fronted by a ratchet-and-click with access to the set-up of each spring achieved on the removal of a decorative brass cap to the centre of the clicks. In-line fusees – each with six crossings at the back revealing their click-wheels. The going train with six crossings to the centre wheel and five to the remaining wheel train terminating with a deadbeat escapement and brass-rod pendulum. The hour train with rack-and-pierced-snail strike on a gong in the base via a steel rod link. The quarters chiming on eight bells via eight hammers. The clock rests on the original mahogany base pierced with decorative sound frets in the back to aid the sound of the gong which is housed within.
