A very handsome mahogany drop dial timepiece. CASE The well-proportioned case has carved ears flanking the curved trunk with a drop door in the base and a hinged door to each side. DIAL The 15 inch convex painted mahogany dial is signed Ganthony London, it has Roman and Arabic chapters with pierced heart-shaped brass hands and a moulded mahogany bezel. MOVEMENT The movement has four pillars, single gut fusee and anchor escapement. Richard Ganthony was apprenticed in 1785, he is listed as working in Lombard Street from 1811 onwards and he died in 1845. His work was always of the highest quality; he specialised in wall and mantel clocks – the latter well-known for having enamel dials.
