A rare mahogany striking verge dial clock. CASE The moulded mahogany dial has a large 14½ inch glazed brass bezel and a solid mahogany salt box with doors to the sides and base and shaped apron beneath. DIAL The 12-inch silvered brass dial is signed DUPLOCK, LONDON. in the centre with the two winding holes, engraved Roman and Arabic chapter rings with a concentric minute track and pierced blued steel hands. MOVEMENT The two train twin fusee movement has five baluster pillars, the going train has a knife-edge verge escapement and the strike train strikes the hours on a bell above the plates. Charles Duplock is recorded working in Borough in the district of Southwark (South London) between 1790-1819. The company then became Duplock & Wiggins from 1819-1828.
