A very fine ebonised striking table clock. CASE The case is surmounted by an inverted bell top with a brass carrying handle; the sides of the case are set with pierced ebony sound frets and the mounded base rests on ebony pad feet. DIAL The gilt-brass dial is signed Vulliamy London 487 on a shaped silvered plaque in the arch flanked by subsidiary silvered rings for strike/silent and pendulum regulation with foliate engraving between; the main dial has applied gilt-brass foliate spandrels to the four corners and is centred by a narrow silvered chapter ring with Roman & Arabic chapters and pierced blued steel hands, the matted centre has winding holes and a small calendar aperture. MOVEMENT The movement has five knopped pillars and twin gut fusees, the going train has a half deadbeat anchor escapement with the original pendulum with steel rod and large brass bob punch-numbered 487 in the centre; the pendulum is suspended from a brass bar above the plates which is regulated at the front from the rise-and-fall dial. The strike train sounds the hours on the original bell above the plates. The backplate is signed Vulliamy London 487 above the pendulum securing block. The movement is secured to the case by means of the original brass brackets and two bolts through the base in the lower pillars.
