A highly individual miniature 8-day mahogany longcase regulator. CASE The case stands only 5 feet tall and has the original double skirt beneath the base which is embellished to the front with a fielded panel. The solid mahogany trunk door has brass hinges and lock; detached brass-reeded columns flank the hood and the arched top has three original small brass ball finials DIAL The 5 inch diameter silvered regulator dial is engraved Willm. Bull Stratford and has an unusual layout with outer minutes, the hours displayed in a window in the lower half and seconds aperture above showing seconds 0-60 in reverse via an interesting three-pointed seconds hand which rotates once in three minutes. MOVEMENT The movement comprises of just three wheels and is loosely based on James Ferguson�s system. The thick brass movement plates are circular with an extension to the top to hook the movement to the backboard, The very high-count wheel train has a deadbeat escapement with large escape wheel making a revolution every 3 minutes, the four pillars being riveted to the dial and pinned at the backplate. The pendulum has a lovely slender wood rod and the weight is small and brass-cased. William Bull is listed as a London maker working from 1770-1804. Stratford is a district of East London, now famous for the Olympic Park built for the 2012 British Olympic Games.
