A very fine and small ebony striking table clock with pull quarter repeat. The case is of typical Knibb construction with a fine foliate-tied gilt-brass handle above the cushion moulded top which is applied with foliate cast gilt-brass mounts. The sides are glazed and the front door is applied with a swivel winged cherub escutcheon to the left rail and an additional fixed escutcheon to the right rail. The moulded base is flat to the table in Knibb's fashion. The 6 inch square fully latched gilt-brass dial is signed Joseph Knibb, London beneath the silvered chapter ring which is engraved with Roman and Arabic chapters and has finely sculpted blued steel hands, fine quality winged cherub spandrels to the four corners. The movement comprises front and back plates joined by five latched baluster pillars, twin spring barrels and fusees with gut lines, the going train with knife-edge verge escapement with bob pendulum and excellent quality backcock, the strike train with hour strike on a bell above the plates with further pull quarter repeat on an additional smaller bell. The backplate is finely engraved with scrolling foliage and tulip heads and further signed Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit PROVENANCE Anthony Woodburn, Sussex
