A handsome walnut, ebony and marquetry 8-day longcase clock. CASE The case is inlaid overall with fine quality floral marquetry on the plinth and trunk door which has a brass-framed oval lenticle and is further inlaid with tulips, foliage and a pair of birds and centred by an urn filled with flowers, panelled oyster veneers to the sides, the hood, originally rising, now forward-sliding has ebony twist columns flanking further marquetry inlay beneath walnut sound frets and a flat moulded top DIAL The 11-inch square brass dial is signed Rob Clement London on the silvered chapter ring which has Roman and Arabic numerals and elaborate blued steel hour and minute hands, the matted centre has ringed winding holes and calendar aperture with subsidiary seconds ring, winged cherub-and-foliate spandrels in the four corners MOVEMENT The movement has five ring-turned baluster pillars, anchor escapement and internal count wheel striking on a bell above the plates; together with a matching pair of brass-cased weights
