A small solid mahogany striking travelling clock with balance wheel escapement. CASE T he well-proportioned case has a chamfered and stepped top, the sides are set with brass fish scale sound frets, the front and rear doors are embellished with brass chamfered angles, the base is inlaid with a rectangular brass panel and the whole clock rests on adjustable brass bun feet, stamped 602 on the rear door cill. DIAL The 31⁄4 inch silvered brass dial is signed in the arch James McCabe Royal Exchange, London 1658, with an engraved Roman chapter ring and blued steel hands, stamped 602 on the reverse. MOVEMENT The fine quality double chain fusee movement has the original platform lever escapement, the hours struck via rack strike on a bell on the backplate which is signed James McCabe Royal Exchange London and numbered 1658. Stamped 602 on the front plate The clock is accompanied with a very fine quality custom-made contemporary travelling case constructed from matching mahogany and being lined with green baize and padding.
