A particularly rare mahogany striking wall clock with verge escapement in double salt box case. CASE The mahogany case has a backboard running the full height of the case with a fine swan neck cresting, there is an access door to the right side and the flat bottom is pegged to the turned bezel DIAL The 13 inch is signed Randle Jackson London on the silvered brass dial which is well laid out with Roman and Arabic chapter ring and fine quality blued steel pierced heart-shaped hands. MOVEMENT The movement has plain rectangular plates conjoined by five pillars with deep centre knops, twin fusees, going train with verge escapement with a large pear-shaped milled bob, the going train strike on a single bell via typical rack striking. Provenance Strike One Islington Ltd Sold in April 1885 for £3,400 – original invoice included Randle or Randal Jackson is recorded in Baillie being in business in London from 1785 to 1808, however Britten records him at 8 Chapel Row, Spa Fields (Spitalfields) as early as 1780. Striking dials clocks are rare, the vast majority being timepiece only. A striking brass dial clock with verge escapement is an exceptionally early and rare survival. £6,500
