CASE With delicate turned mahogany bezel, large curved mahogany door in the base with original brass latch, doors to both sides of the box with mahogany trellis sound frets DIAL The 12-inch dial is signed John Birch, London on the original cream-painted ground with Roman chapters and original pierced brass hands MOVEMENT The movement has shouldered brass plates, twin fusees with anchor escapement and rack hour strike on a bell Provenance Sold by E. Hollander Ltd, Dorking, September 1987 (with invoice for £1,800) John Birch is recorded working in Islington, N. London between 1805 and 1808
