A fine quality mahogany striking dial clock. CASE The finely-turned mahogany bezel frames a well-cast moulded brass dial bezel, the mahogany-veneered pegged movement box has brass fretted doors to the sides and a drop door in the base. DIAL The 12 inch diameter dial is signed Recordon Late Emery London, Roman chapters and delicate blued steel spade hands. MOVEMENT The fine quality movement has thick brass shouldered plates with five pillars and twin gut fusees, strike train with rack strike on a bell, going train with anchor escapement. Louis Recordon Recordon had a long and fine clockmaking career between 1778 and 1828 in Cockspur Street, just off Trafalgar Square in central London. He patented a pedometer in 1820 and was succeeded by the clockmaker Des Granges.
