A fine Victorian rosewood two-day marine chronometer with Poole's auxiliary balance. CASE The three tier brass-bound rosewood box has a bone signature plaque applied to the front of the mid-section signed John Poole 57, Fenchurch Street London Sold by GE H. & C. Gowland, Sunderland with vacant brass cartouche to the original top lid, brass drop handles to the sides and original baize lined base. The 8.5 cm. diameter silvered dial signed John Poole Maker to the Admiralty, Fenchurch St. London 2027, with gold hour, and minute and blued steel up/down and seconds hands. MOVEMENT The movement has well spotted plates, Earnshaw spring detent escapement with adjustment to foot, blued steel helical balance spring, cut bimetallic balance with Poole''s auxiliary and ''cut'' circular heat compensation weights, brass bowl numbered 2027
